Technology Community

The technology community is important to my career and social interests. I have worked primarily with open source software since 2006. Supporting various communities is a great way to network, to help contribute, and for professional development.

Drupal

As a web developer, I naturally gravitated toward content management systems (CMSes) and Drupal stood out as a highly customizable option. I have been involved in the Drupal community in various ways since 2008. There are various areas where I actively help and promote things for Drupal

  • DrupalCon: I have attended and helped organize several DrupalCons, which is the main conference for the Drupal community in several regions each year.
  • Pacific Northwest Drupal Summit: This is a smaller event, local to where I live, which I like to attend and help organize.
  • Pacific Time Virtual Drupal Users Group: "PTVDUG" for short. This is a group that I created to help with virtual meetups each month. While it's scheduled for the Pacific time zone, all are welcome!
  • Drupal Diversity & Inclusion: Whenever I can, I like to support DEI-related initiatives and groups. DDI is among those groups that I participate in.
  • IXP Initiative: This is a relatively new initiative to help inexperienced people gain real-world Drupal experience.
  • Talking Drupal: This podcast has run for many years to discuss all things related to Drupal. I have been fortunate enough to participate in several podcast episodes.
  • Bluefly Collective: A group of Drupal talent who help build and maintain Drupal websites. I also help with their BlueDrop podcast as a host.

User Experience Design

After years of web development, I eventually shifted my focus toward additional roles and disciplines. User experience design was a natural interest, because it adds strategy and purpose behind the things that I help create. This includes my practice of things like user research, user testing, accessibility improvements, information architecture, and content strategy.

Effective Technology Leadership

With my technology career starting in 2000, I have built a wealth of experience not only with technical skills, but in leadership and management. I am very passionate about Agile project management, Lean methodologies, performance measurements, and continuous improvements. Product ownership, team leadership, and business analysis are among my most fond career roles.

As a newcomer to Canada and in light of recent concerns over data sovereignty, I drafted a Canada-First Digital Solutions Initiative that I hope will gain more attention.
